A Simple Christmas tree with a homemade skirt

Here is a picture of my Christmas tree this year, my pride and joy is the skirt I made. it only took my 4 or 5 hours to make, I love it and I found the inspiration from HGTV website. I had a few yards of linen and a old queen sized bed sheet and some ribbon to create it. The best part is that is requires no sewing!

Tuesday

Its raining its pouring...

It is actually raining here in Yuma! All afternoon to be exact, and my family and I are enjoying the sound, smell, and all the puddles.
I would have taken a few pictures but I need to get my camera fixed.
This is another reason I have not posted any craft projects on the blog.
I have though enjoyed reading a few blog I follow. Such amazing, creative women out there.
Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Friday

knobs

I have started to collect a few knobs, it has become my new obsession. lol I think I will be hoarding a few of these for a while until I figure out what project I will use them for. I think these would look good in a jar for easy storage. I can not wait to go down to our local Antique shops to look for a few more vintage knobs.

Sewing kit in a jar

About a week ago I was browsing through one of my favorite shops Anthropologie and saw that they were selling a sewing kit in a Mason jar. It was lovely but it was priced at $48, Then I remembered that I had a few that I had made under $10 about two years ago. Even though my sewing kit has a few supplies I found at the dollar store I also have a few vintage spools and button shanks.
The first is from Anthropologie and the other two pictured are my sewing kit.
This kit is very simple to re create especially if you already have most of the supplies all you need is a mason jar that you can purchase at your local thrift store for under $1.
I cant justify me paying the $48 for something I can easily make at home and make it my own. This would also make a great Christmas gift.

A look at what is inside
This not only can be used to store your sewing supplies but other items as well like glue sticks, buttons, candy. So if you are on a budget make your own and save.

Thursday

What I have been up to

I have so many projects I am currently working on and more to begin before Christmas. I hope that I can find the time to finish them all, most of which are Christmas decorations and gifts. My two biggest projects are decorating my craft room (has been for the last 4 or so months) and reupholstering and painting my dining room chairs. At the moment my dining room chairs are a cherry wood with a cream colored seat. I am thinking of either painting them a robin eggs blue (one of my top favorite colors) or a shade of green. The table is not something I would like to keep for a dining table so I will be replacing it with something different to match the chairs. I am excited to start on this project and see the final product just hope it turns out as well as I am imagining it.

******
As soon as I get a quick chance I will be post one of my most recent projects and adding a new flower tutorial as well. I know I have been lacking in posts and promise to keep up with my blog a bit more. Also, I love checking out your blogs whether it be crafting, foods, fashion, family, life, sewing or whatever you enjoy so subscribe and leave a link to your blog.
Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week.

I really like the way these turned out I have two more to make and I will finally be able to mail them all out.

Wednesday

Mini update "Lost and Found"

I have to be honest I have not been working onmy mini album too much actually not at all. A few nights ago I was ablt to start and finish two page layouts.

Rub N Buff

Finding inexpensive vintage looking frames is a bit difficult to find for a affordable price. I decided to experiment with Rub n' Buff, I love it. Its so easy to use and not very messy at all, If you make a mistake its easy to fix, really you can't make mistakes. They sell all different colors I got the gold because I wanted to give this small black frame I purchased at Michaels for a penny a aged look.
I was not quite sure it would turn out too well since it was my first time using Rub n' Buff but I love the results. I didnt use too much on this black frame because I also wanted the black to be visable.

This is what the frame looked like before Rub n' Buff

After I added a little Rub n' Buff

My end result
I would suggest giving it a try you won't be disappointed especially if you love the aged look. They come in many colors but I have not given those a try yet. Believe me I will be trying them and post a few pictures of how each color looks.
You can find them at Hobby Lobby, Michaels Crafts for less than $5.
I would ove to see what you create...

Monday

A vintage inspired brooch

I own quite a few cradigans and most of them are pretty plain so I decided to make a brooch. I picked out three felt fabrics that I thought went well with the Cream colored cardigan and also fall colors. I used the rolled rolled techinque and hot glue each rolled felted flower to the back of another piece of felt then hot glued the entire piece to a brooch clip I purchased at Joann's. I loved the way it turned out I love the colors I picked out a little vintage.
I plan on wearing this with a brown skirt next Sunday. I'll have to post some pictures of the entire out this weekend. I will also have tutorial up soon on how to ceate this brooch.

Sunday

Create...a banner

As I continue working on my studio organizing and rearranging and making it more comfortable. I figured why not make inspiring banners. This is the first banner I have created  which says 'create.' I love the way it turned out and how shabby chic it looks. The glitter gives it that lovely sparkle when the sunlight from my window shines on it. Love it.

Create something you will love even if the rest don't think its amazing.
My next banner I will be working on will read "Inspire" I can not wait to work on this one, so stay tuned to see how it turns out.

Saturday

Cone folded flower

I sit in my craft room thinking of what to create with my 6x6 paper collection of My Minds eye 'Lost and Found' I decide to create a flower and begin cuttting and punching a few of the sheets and then I think what if I do this..and thats how my new flower creation come to be. I have not seen a flower tutorial like this on the web yet so I have decided to share with you how I have created this fun cone fold flower.

To begin you will need:
1. 1 1/4" Square punch (you may use a 1" unch but I used a 1 1 /4")
2. 3 double sided sheets
3. A paper circle for backing
4. Glue ( I used glossy accents but hot glue will work )
5. A button
6. Bakers twine or any Thread

Lets get started... First punch out 4 squares from each sheet (you should have 12 total)

Fold each square into a cone

Add glue to the inside of the folds and hold togther to insure the glue holds.

Continue to fold each square

This is what they should look like after folding all 12 squares.

Assemble each cone in the order you would like ( I alternated each cone)

Add some glue to the circle you cut

Add all the cones to the circle

This is what it should look like it once adhered to the backing

Now grab the button of your choice and thread the bakers twine through the loop holes and tie a knot

Adhere the button to the center of the flower and you are done.

This flower is dimensional and great for scrapbooking have fun creating.

Its Autumn

I must say that Autumn is my favorite time of the year, and it is the time of the year I find myself creative more and enjoying all the colors. Two nights ago I woke up at 12:00 am thinking I do not have a Autumn door sign yet, I must work on one now. I did and this is what I came up with:
I love how it turned out, I will also be adding a grape vine wreath to itjust havent found the perfect size.
I knew saving my music sheets from my childhood would be useful on a project.

Friday

Unfortunately my camera's battery died and I am unable to download my photos to the computer. I will post my flower tutorial tomorrow. I apologize :)

Thursday

Lost and Found

Can you guess what I plan on creating?

If you guessed a mini album, you guessed right.
Its been awhile since i created a mini album and i am having withdrawls. These are a few goodies I plan on using on the album. I 'll gladly share with you each step of how i create my album. So lets get started...

My shabby chic frames

I had these unfinished wood frames I purchased at Michael's and was not sure how I would decorate them. I wanted to give them as gifts to my mother in law Lori. She loves framing photographs. I covered the first frame with a shabby chic paper and used some glimmer mist to give it a little glimmer. Also glued on some cherry blossom flowers by Recollections.

The second frame i decided to give a little distressed look. I painted it white all over then I used my heat gun to give it a slight peeled paint look then i distressed the edges with walnut stain. On the right corner I attached a purple Petaloo flower with some pink tulle and a clear spray.

A few cards

These are just a few cards I have created in the last few days. It started because i needed to make a special card for my husband. Once I finished with the Birthday Card I made a three more.

Thursday

Vintage inspired jewelry box

I have finally finished my altered project I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. I wanted something where I could display my favorite vintage findings. This box was from Michael's in the unfinished wood section. I first painted the entire box Ballet Pink by Folk Art then I painted over the pink with Robin's Egg Blue with some of the pink still peeking through. Inside i covered each section with The Thirft Shop by October Afternoon. On the edges I distressed with Walnut Stain by Tim Holtz. Finally, for the drawer I used a red velvet fabric to cover the inside just to give it a vintage feel.
